Bespoke, Cancellation & Refund Policy

Welcome to Carbon and Kin. Because each of our Life Diamonds is an entirely bespoke masterpiece, meticulously grown from your designated unique biological carbon source (hair or cremated ashes), our production and refund policies differ significantly from standard off-the-shelf luxury retail.

By placing an order with us and submitting your materials, you formally acknowledge and agree to the following terms and conditions.

1. The Customization & Production Cycle

  • Bespoke Nature: Every diamond we cultivate is a 1-on-1 personalized service, mandating an inherently high dedication of laboratory resources and advanced extraction technologies.

  • Timeline: The complete cultivation, faceting, and polishing process requires approximately two (2) months of unwavering technical attention from the date your raw materials are safely received and verified by our laboratory.

2. Cancellation & Refund Structure

Our bespoke journey begins with a uniform $500 USD Initial Bespoke Deposit, which reserves your laboratory slot and covers the dispatch of your secure Collection Kit.

  • Phase 1: Prior to Material Submission If you change your mind before you ship your hair or ashes back to our facility, your $500 Deposit is fully refundable (minus standard credit card processing fees).

  • Phase 2: Upon Receipt & Laboratory Preparation Once your collection kit and materials are safely received at our facility and the chemical isolation process begins, the $500 Initial Deposit becomes strictly non-refundable. This amount is retained to cover the irreversible costs of bio-sanitization, secure handling, and laboratory setup.

  • Phase 3: Final Production & Remaining Balance After the successful extraction of your carbon, you will be invoiced for the remaining balance based on your selected diamond carat and color. Once this final payment is settled and the HPHT cultivation begins, the entire order becomes completely non-refundable and cannot be exchanged, as the diamond is fundamentally unique to you.

3. Material Handling & Natural Variations

  • Yield Expectations: We require a modest volume of essence (3 to 5 grams of hair or approximately 30 grams of ashes) to ensure sufficient carbon purification. In the extremely rare scientific event that a material sample yields insufficient carbon to successfully stabilize crystal growth, Carbon and Kin will contact you immediately to discuss either a supplementary material submission or a partial refund option for the growth phase.

  • Natural Color & Clarity Variations: Just as a life well-lived is vibrant and multifaceted, laboratory-grown biological diamonds may display subtle, elegant natural inclusions or slight prismatic hue variances. These are not defects, but the authentic scientific thumbprint of your unique carbon source. We guarantee independent grading (such as IGI certification) for Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat weight to ensure global standards of excellence, but refunds will not be granted based on natural structural characteristics unique to your diamond's organic origin.

4. Secure Chain of Custody & Logistics

  • Carbon and Kin maintains a rigorously documented, unbroken chain of provenance. While we utilize secure, insured, and tracked priority courier networks for the double-way transit of collection kits and finished high-end jewelry, Carbon and Kin cannot be held legally liable for unforeseen carrier force majeure or catastrophic loss during third-party transit. Full transit insurance options are mandatory and detailed at checkout.

5. How to Request a Cancellation

To initiate a permitted phase-specific cancellation, please contact our Global Concierge directly via your registered order email at: jin@carbonandkin.com. Time of cancellation is legally logged based on the timestamp of the email received.
